Smiling Strings currently offers in person classes Monday through Thursday at its Elston Ave. location (see map). Zoom options are also available. Descriptions of all classes are shown below.
(Visit the Schools page for a schedule of classes held outside of the Elston Ave studio)
Violin / Viola
The most popular and smallest of the stringed instrument family, we’ll have your child performing in a recital by the holidays!
Instruments must be rented for these classes: learn more here.
Cello/Bass
Students who don’t mind larger instruments with beautiful deep tones should highly consider cello and double bass. These instruments are ALWAYS in demand in school orchestras and youth symphonies! Cello is offered as young as 1st grade. Double bass is recommended 4th grade and up.

Harp (ON HOLD)
Whether you are coming from a piano background and can easily read notes or have never played a stringed instrument before, the harp can be enjoyed by 1st graders all the way to adults. Playing on smaller scale instruments, students are introduced to the beauty of lush chords and arpeggios and simple melodies.

KidMusik 3-5 yrs
Music is a natural and important part of young children’s growth and development! Early interaction with music positively affects the quality of all children’s lives. Successful experiences in music help all children bond emotionally and intellectually with others through creative expression in song, rhythmic movement, and listening experiences.
Piano
Studying Piano sets a musical foundation for finger dexterity and sense of pitch! Lessons are often taken in conjunction with another primary instrument.
Acoustic Guitar
One of the most popular instruments, we study on acoustic (folk, classical) not electric guitars. That doesn’t mean your student can’t learn to “rock” out or learn some blues….we combine all styles!
